The new Alfa Romeo Tonale crossover, a relative of the Jeep Compass, which is positioned by the Italian brand as a sports compact SUV smaller than the Stelvio, took part in the next “moose test” of the Spanish portal km77.com. The Moose Test is a test of maneuverability: as part of the races, the test car must dodge sharply, as if an animal jumped into the road, and then return to its lane without hitting the cones. The result is considered successful when the car copes with the task at a speed of 77 kilometers per hour. But Alfa Romeo Tonale was not so fast.
The front-wheel drive Tonale with a hybrid power plant based on the 1.3 MultiAir turbo four took part in the tests. It was a special edition of the Edizione Speciale, the difference of which is 20-inch wheels with Pirelli PZero 235/40 96V Performance tires.
Passing the "elk test" Alfa Romeo Tonale did not impress the experts. Complaints were caused by auxiliary electronic assistants, namely the stabilization system, which turned out to be almost useless. The crossover passed the test at a speed of 74 kilometers per hour, which is slower than the Honda Civic and Nissan Ariya, which passed the test at a speed of 77 kilometers per hour.
No more carbon dioxide excuses – China is turning it into a clean fuel
It is worth noting that Alfa Romeo itself intends to compete with Lexus, and Tonale has become the first premium model that should challenge the Japanese brand. In the "welcome" special version of the Edizione Speciale, the crossover costs 39 thousand euros (2.6 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and is equipped with matrix headlights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a sports steering wheel. In addition to the 131-horsepower setup, Tonale also has a more powerful 160-horsepower option.
And in the US specification for Tonale, an all-wheel drive modification with a 2.0 petrol turbo engine (260 hp) and a nine-band automatic is declared. The Italian crossover will enter the local market in 2023.
