Today the fight was mainly between the two Frenchmen Sebastian Loeb and Sebastien Ogier. In the end, Loeb Sébastien / Galmiche I. (Ford Puma Rally1) took the lead with a lead of 9.9 seconds ahead of Ogier S. / Veillas B. (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1). Third place went to Evans Elfyn / Martin Scott (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) in 22.0 seconds.
The race is not going well for Neuville Thierry / Wydaeghe Martijn, who turned around and complained that the race was a nightmare for them.
The well-performing Fourmaux Adrien / Coria Alexandre (Ford Puma) crashed in stage three and ended the race.
However, quite a bit of black ice on the track sent Sebastian Ogier to the third position after stage 5, as Elfi Evans intervened in the battle for the forehead.
Sebastien Loeb commented that he felt confident with the car and pressed to hold the first position.
Tomorrow on Saturday, the competition continues with 5 new stages.
Rally Season 2022 at the World Rally Championship began with the opening ceremony right in front of the Monte Carlo Casino. This is the first race of the season with completely different cars, and the favorites may be different from the previous season.
Two stages await the crews tonight, all in the dark. The stages are north of Monaco.
In Shakedown today, the fastest were Ogier S. / Veillas B. (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1). Second are Loeb Sébastien / Galmiche I. (Ford Puma Rally1), just 0.5 seconds behind Ogier.
Sebastien Loeb is back, but not in a full season to help the team and the development of the new Ford Puma.
The third position in the shakedown today is for Evans Elfyn / Martin Scott (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) 1.0 sec after Ogier.
The new cars proved to be less reliable after Breen Craig / Nagle Paul and Greensmith Gus / Andersson Jonas before the start of the race, and the problem was related to both crews with powersteering.
At 20:18 CET starts today with 1 - Luceram - Lantosque 15.2 km, and CE2 La Bollène-Vésubie - Moulinet is 23.25 km long. A total of 17 stages will be held in the Monte Carlo Rally 2022.
Sebastien Ogier / J. Ingrassia (Toyota Yaris WRC) are expected to be world champions for 2021. Not only are they champions, but the French also won the last race of the Rally Monza 2021 season. Ogier fought the entire race with their teammate for the Elfyn Evans / Martin Scott (Toyota Yaris WRC) title.
With just 7.3 seconds ahead, Ogier took the win, but even if he was back in the standings, he would still be the world champion for 2021.
Ogier won his 8th title out of a total of 9 seasons in the World Rally Championship.
Toyota, on the other hand, is the winner of the title for constructors.
The last 3 sections today Ogier was only 0.5 seconds ahead of Evans, making a 7.1 second lead over Evans in the penultimate section.
In the last section of the Power Stage there was nothing left but Neuville Thierry / Wydaeghe Martijn (Hyundai i20 Couple WRC) to press the gas for a place of honor, but only managed to win the Power Stage, but remained 4th in the general. A very disappointing season for Neuville, which failed to shorten 3.9 seconds at the end of the race to 3rd place, which remained with Dani Sordo / C. Carrera (Hyundai i20 Couple WRC).
First in Rally 2 are Rossel Yohan / Renucci J. (Citroën C3 Rally2), who in the last stage overtook the Poles Kajetanowicz K. / Szczepaniak M. (Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) by only 1.8 seconds.
Apart from the last race of the season, this is the end of a generation of cars that will be replaced by a completely new one in less than two months at the Monte Carlo Rally 2022.
